What I adored
I adore no longer. It’s over.
Time has washed her beauty away.

How different
it must be
to be her.

There was no way
of knowing this
before I set off.

This is how Aphrodite must have looked
when she stepped out of the ocean,
something half imagined

half of her under water
and the other half
just another Undine.
